The platform and its components
These answers cover the Spindle Insurance Operating Platform and each of its components.
What is the Spindle Insurance Operating Platform?
It is a composable, API-first, end-to-end low-code platform that is pre-integrated and delivered as SaaS. It covers product administration, business orchestration, integration, customer engagement, data, reporting and content. See the platform components.
What is an insurance operating platform?
An insurance operating platform covers policy administration and also the engagement, process, integration, data, reporting and content an insurer needs, already connected. The page on why an operating platform explains the difference from a standalone policy administration system.
Is Spindle a policy administration system?
No. Spindle PAS is the policy administration component, and it is one component of the Spindle Insurance Operating Platform. The platform covers much more than policy administration.
What does Spindle PAS do?
Spindle PAS is a configurable, headless system for policy and contract administration. It covers products, calculations and atomic policy and financial transactions. See Spindle PAS.
What is the difference between Spindle BPM and WorkCentre?
Spindle BPM orchestrates business processes, including workflows, decisions, case management, human tasks and governed AI activities. WorkCentre is where staff manage the work, with queues, cases, approvals, oversight, escalations and audit visibility. See Spindle BPM and WorkCentre.
What does Spindle Integration do?
It provides governed API management, service and integration orchestration, data movement, transformations, events and connectivity. See Spindle Integration.
What is Spindle Entity Master?
It is an internal matrix that links a person's identifiers across systems. For example, it can associate an authenticated customer with their policy IDs across several policy platforms. See Spindle Entity Master.
Is Spindle Entity Master a Customer 360?
No. It is not a Customer 360 and not an enterprise customer data master. It links identifiers across systems.
What is Spindle ODS?
It is the operational data store. It provides governed operational projections, canonical models and feeds for reporting and analytics. See Spindle ODS.
Does Spindle include document management?
Spindle Content provides document and records management where the customer selects it. See Spindle Content.
Does Spindle include a general ledger, payment gateway or identity provider?
No. Spindle PAS produces policy-level financial postings for transfer to the customer's general ledger. A payment gateway and an identity provider remain the customer's own.
Journeys and adoption
These answers cover how a customer starts with Spindle and how it works with existing systems.
What are the Spindle journeys?
Spindle has four entry journeys: Launch, Scale, Transform and Digitise. Each is a starting point onto the same platform. See the journeys page.
Can we use Spindle without replacing our existing policy system?
Yes. Spindle works alongside existing policy systems. A customer can adopt the engagement, process and integration layers without subscribing to Spindle PAS.
Is Spindle low-code?
Yes. Spindle is an end-to-end low-code platform, which means products, processes, experiences and integrations are built and changed with low-code tools.
What does composable mean?
Composable means the platform is made of separate components that can be adopted and changed individually.
Subscription, support and cost
These answers cover what the subscription includes, who supports it and how long delivery takes.
What does the Spindle subscription cover?
It covers the licensed platform, agreed cloud operations, security operations, monitoring, backups, recovery, platform upgrades and support for the subscribed implementation. See how Spindle is delivered.
What is not covered by the subscription?
New products, configurations, integrations, migration and functional changes are separately scoped professional services.
Which subscription configurations are there?
Spindle offers Core, Core+, Core Flow, Core Flow+ and Engagement+. Ask Spindle through the contact page for the current description of each.
Who provides support?
The customer's own team provides first-line (L1) support. Spindle provides L2 to L4 support.
How long does it take to see a working demonstration?

In Spindle's general experience, the pre-integrated, configuration-based method can reduce implementation cost by more than 50% compared with traditional multi-product assembly.
How does the cost compare over five years?
Five-year total cost of ownership is approximately one third lower than acquiring, integrating and running a comparable platform yourself, in Spindle's general experience.
Does Spindle publish its prices?
No. The website does not publish prices. Contact Spindle through the contact page to discuss your requirements.
AI and heritage
These answers cover how Spindle uses AI and the history of its policy administration technology.
