What is Spindle PAS?
Spindle PAS is the policy administration component of the Spindle Insurance Operating Platform. It is a configurable, headless system for policy and contract administration, covering products, calculations and atomic policy and financial transactions.

What does Spindle PAS do?
Spindle PAS covers three areas:
- products, which are configured rather than coded
- calculations
- atomic policy and financial transactions

What does headless mean?
A headless system has no fixed user interface of its own. Other components and channels reach it through APIs, so the screens can change without changing the administration engine.
What is an atomic transaction?
An atomic transaction completes in full or not at all. For policy administration, this means a change to a policy and its financial effect are recorded together.
Does Spindle PAS include a general ledger?
No. Spindle PAS produces policy-level financial postings for transfer to the customer's general ledger. Spindle does not include a general ledger, a payment gateway or an identity provider.
Is Spindle PAS the whole platform?
No. Spindle PAS is one component of the Spindle Insurance Operating Platform. The platform also covers business orchestration, integration, customer engagement, data, reporting and content.
The underlying PAS technology has more than 20 years of heritage. That describes the technology, not the age of Spindle as a company.
Do I have to use Spindle PAS?
No. Spindle works alongside existing policy systems. A customer can adopt the engagement, process and integration layers without subscribing to Spindle PAS.
